THE HEROIS DO MAR, were born in 2004, and the first meetings were held at the BOCA DOCE cafe, which the owner Alex de Almeida made available for the preparatory meetings for the start of the Association, it was there that the name was chosen and the first steps were taken , with the logistical help of the COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS Organization, through the Development Worker ROB GREGORY. It was decided that the Association would be a Unincorporated organization with Umbrella as the Community Connections that would handle all legal and organizational aspects. The process was led by Alex de Almeida and Pedro Rosa accompanied by Rob Gregory.

The Association since 2007, relied on a condition and legal figure very different from IPSS´s similar to a Fundacao in Portugal, with about 45,000 services provided free until 2016 +/- 4,000 / year, working 12 hours a day and seven days a day. permanently. Of the most diverse social activities, it is noteworthy that the greatest impact it has had on the community and which involves making meals available, reducing the difficulties of many Portuguese-speaking citizens. and currently in partnership since 2016 with GYUWC, Unemployed Workers center, helped more than 3,800 citizens from all communities, with documents, benefits, legal advise evictions, etc. in partnership with Citizen Advice and Job Center.

Manuel & Ana have spent the last eleven years dedicating their lives to building a community hub at Herois do Mar in Yarmouth. They have helped thousands of individuals and dozens of organizations across the borough in a tireless effort to bring people together. In light of their imminent departure for Norwich, we're hosting a party to celebrate their huge contribution to Great Yarmouth with some presentations on behalf of the many union, political and community organizations that are grateful to Manuel and Ana
